Time for a Website Upgrade - Professionalism Counts

In an increasingly digital world where first impressions most definitely count, I knew it had come to the point where my website needed an upgrade.

As many people do when starting out, I had created my own website, and at the time I was quite proud of myself. It had the look and feel I was after and I was out there for all to see, or so I thought. What very quickly became clear, is that there is way more to the technical side of a website than most people realise, and keeping up with the SEO, alt text and file sizes to name but a few, is a job in itself.

So, my business has grown, and I spend my time telling people that first impressions count. “Let me do what I do best to promote your business, with eye-catching images” I tell my clients. The best way to make those images really work is to ensure that clients can get to them easily, and view them in the best format, whatever platform they’re using. That’s where my new website comes in. I have to practice what I preach.

Understanding the USP

I knew that to achieve the wow factor that I wanted for my website I would need to find a web developer who understood the USP of my business. That’s the way I work, and that’s how I create authentic images for my clients. I needed someone who would let the images do the talking.

Thankfully Jon Bugg at
#wearedoodlebug came to the rescue. Like a nervous parent I handed over my vision for the new site to Jon. What made the experience so enjoyable was the way Jon involved me in the whole process and listened to what I wanted.

Communication is at the heart of all good business, and that along with their design flare and technical wizardry is where We Are Doodlebug are winners.

The nervous parent is a very proud parent, I’m delighted with the site and feel that it truly reflects my style of photography; personal, detailed and honest in a way that really connects with people. The navigation and interaction is easy, and I love the clean look and feel. Do have a look and let me know what you think, and if you’re thinking that your website needs a polish then maybe Jon and I can both help.

Whatever kind of shoot you’re on, photography is about planning, and then waiting for that perfect moment. For this landscape shoot at Caister beach, I knew that the sun would rise above the wind turbines at Scroby Sands, providing me with interest on the horizon plus a sense of scale. I had checked the weather forecast and knew it was going to be cloudy, so I planned to use my LEE polarising filter to bring out the colours of the sky. In order that the waves were not a distraction from the focal point of the image, I was going to use a slow exposure to smooth them out, and hopefully give an ethereal feel to the image. With a F9 setting to ensure enough detail on the horizon, and an 8 second exposure set up and ready to go, it was now a waiting game. I was hoping that the sun would be strong enough to break through the cloud. The picture below was the result of a ten-minute wait, but well worth it. By this time the wind had increased, and the clouds were moving. This was a perfect example of how nature can be a changing beauty, even from the same spot. I knew that if I stayed where I was, I would be able to capture a subtly varied series of images from one vantage point. The second shot shows the emerging colours of dawn, and to give a sense of a gently stirring sea I changed the exposure time to four seconds. With the clouds thickening, the scene was continuing to change. I changed to a ten second exposure, to achieve a milky flattening of the retreating waves over the shingle. This draws the eye to the sun forcing through a crack in the clouds at the top of the image. By now it was time to move, and to contrast with the earlier images I changed to an F6.3 with an exposure of 1/500. This gave me detail and texture in the waves and a pleasing vibrancy that made the early start, well rewarded.

When buying wall art, it’s always important to visualize how your piece will look in your space. To help you do that I’ve put together a selection of my available works, in different rooms and with different framing options. I’ve chosen a classic black for the framed options, but then have also shown the more minimalist frameless options which is what you get with either dibond or canvas images. If you’d like to chat about wall art buying options, do give me a call on 07519939580 or email on newsightphotography@gmail.com
